Snoring and Sleep Apnea

Snoring and sleep apnea If you or a member of your family experiences excessive snoring or sleep apnea,
Dr. Bogan can assist you in finding a solution that will work for you.

What is Snorning?

Snoring is a very common yet fairly harmless condition that is caused when your upper airways are partially blocked by soft tissue in the throat. When you breathe, the airflow will begin to vibrate the soft tissue which creates that unmistakable noise.
Dr. Bogan offers a variety treatments that will ease the discomfort and stigma of snoring including oral appliances.

What is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep Apnea is a medical disorder in which the tissue in the back of the throat blocks the airway and prevents airflow during sleep. It is estimated that more than 18 million Americans live with this serious medical disorder. People with sleep apnea normally experience symptoms of loud snoring and would often stop breathing in their sleep. There are three forms of sleep apnea. Central (CSA), Obstructive (OSA), and Mixed or Complex sleep apnea. Dr. Bogan will ask you a series of questions to better understand the severity of your sleep apnea. He will then talk to you about the options that he thinks is best suited for your condition.

Signs of Sleep Apnea:
  • Daytime Sleepiness
  • Waking from sleep choking or gasping for breath
  • Loud Snoring
  • Unrefreshed Sleep
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
Diagnosing Sleep Apnea
Dr. Bogan will sit down with you to assess the severity of your sleep apnea. Working with your medical physician, Dr. Bogan will confirm the level of your condition. This information will allow Dr. Bogan to recommended the correct treatment to ease your sleep apnea symptoms.

Treatment Options:
  • Dr. Bogan uses oral appliance therapy to treat mild to moderate sleep apnea. Many patients tell us that they are able to tolerate the oral appliance therapy much easier than the CPAP therapy prescribed by their sleep physicians.
  • Oral Appliance Therapy includes the selection, fitting, and installation of a custom designed oral appliance that will clear the airway when sleeping.
Dr. Bogan offers oral appliance therapy for the treatment of sleep apnea for the communities of Lewis Center, Delaware, Powell, Worthington, and surrounding areas. Call the office of North Orange Family Dentistry today.
